A corner stone of Exchange at a national level is to bring awareness to Child Abuse Prevention. The Exchange Club of Greater Newburyport has worked for 36 years raising funds that support the community with Child Abuse Prevention at the forefront. Greater Newburyport is a wonderful family oriented community yet there are families who need help and guidance on parenting skills. The Michael B. Christensen Family Support Center in Lawrence is a local provider for counseling and family programs serving the Merrimack Valley.
The Exchange Club of Greater Newburyport raises money in a variety of ways to financially support our child abuse prevention efforts. The Field of Honor at the Bartlet Mall is a fund raiser which benefits the Michael B. Christensen center and other programs like “Kids as Peacemakers”.
As a community, we must love and encourage our children to become the adults who develop skills, relationships and values that make our community proud.
Michael B. Christensen Community and Family Support Center is a child abuse prevention and family education center that has 9 programs within. Our programs, in one manner or another, focus on parent and early childhood education. We work towards 5 major goals: increasing parental and child resiliency, helping develop a support network and concrete supports in time of need, helping parents understand child development while teaching affective parenting skills and developing social and emotional competency in all family members. Our programs also focus on community education and collaboration.
